Water Emergency Update

The Town has experienced a catastrophic water line failure along the north side of Academy Drive from Main Street to the west.  1,460 feet of line has or is failing.  It is estimated that the line that is failing is over 55 years old.  The Town crews have patched the line in 9 places.  Each time the line is repaired, failure occurs in a new location.  The Board of Aldermen held an emergency meeting this morning and declared an emergency.  The Town has been able to secure new pipe and has a contractor onsite to assist the Town crews in replacing the entire line.  We are hopeful that the work will be completed, and water service restored before tomorrow morning.

The Town has been in contact with representatives of the State as well as local EMS personnel.  The Town has received and has distributed bottled water to most of those impacted.  Additional bottled water is being acquired and will be available for those impacted by this situation.

We appreciate your cooperative spirit and your patience.  This is a frustrating situation, and we are working as quickly as possible to address the issue.  As more information becomes available, we will keep you updated.
